East Lothian Townhouse
Style direction & layout guidance.
A concept-led project focused on layout planning, visual balance, and cohesive design direction.
This project focused on providing style direction and layout guidance for a residential townhouse in East Lothian. The aim was to develop a cohesive design approach that improved spatial balance, functionality, and overall visual harmony. Early-stage visualisations were used to explore layout options, proportions, and design decisions.
The Brief
- Improve the overall layout and flow of the main living areas
- Create a timeless interior that would age well
- Balance comfort with a refined, considered aesthetic
- Coordinate finishes, lighting, and furnishings across multiple rooms
My Approach
- Developed a cohesive design direction to run throughout the property
- Focused on layout planning and spatial balance before aesthetic decisions
- Layered lighting to support both practical use and atmosphere
- Selected finishes and materials with longevity and ease of maintenance in mind
- Worked closely with trades to ensure design intent was carried through on site
Design Development & Visualisation
3D visualisations were used to explore layout, proportions, and overall design direction
Key Design Considerations
- Spatial balance and furniture proportions
- Visual flow and circulation
- Cohesion between finishes and furnishings
- Practical day-to-day usability
The project provided a clear design direction and spatial strategy, enabling confident decision-making and a cohesive vision for the space. The visualisations supported both layout refinement and overall design clarity.
